Load Management

YOUR MEASURABLE COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE

Load management rethought

More than peak clipping — a tool for active energy management

You pay for the highest 15-minute measurement period in the billing period. Most people know this mechanism. What very few actually use: the ability to dynamically couple energy consumption to market prices, structurally reduce grid charges, and simultaneously protect production processes.

WATT INDUSTRIES develops load management systems that don't just clip peaks — but optimise your entire energy strategy. Peak-shaving, atypical grid use, intensive grid use and EPEX market integration from a single source, tailored to your real infrastructure.

Cost structure

Why load optimisation?

Energy costs are not just made up of the energy price component. The demand charge component — tied to your highest measurement period — often accounts for 20–40% of total costs in energy-intensive operations. The more volatile your load profile, the greater the savings potential.

A poorly optimised load profile means: you pay for peaks you could have avoided with minimal effort. A well-optimised load profile means: measurably lower grid costs — without eliminating a single production step.

Grid regulation §17

Peak-Shaving

Reducing the demand charge component

Classic peak load shifting: the system detects imminent load peaks in the current 15-minute measurement period and selectively switches off or defers controllable loads. The target value is maintained, the load peak is avoided.

Depending on coincidence factor and process management, savings of 5 % to 48 % in the demand component are possible. WATT INDUSTRIES parametrises the system based on your actual load profile history — not on assumptions.

Grid regulation §19.2.1

Atypical Grid Use

Reducing grid charges

Atypical grid use applies when you reduce your peak load during the high-load window by at least 20% to a maximum of 80% relative to the absolute annual peak load.

The savings result from the product of the reduced peak load and the annual demand price. For larger consumption volumes this can amount to a substantial five-figure sum annually. Our system automatically identifies the high-load window and controls accordingly.

Grid regulation §19.2.2

Intensive Grid Use

Full grid charge reduction

Those who consume more than 10 GWh in a calendar year and exceed the utilisation hours threshold can benefit from a full grid charge reduction.

> 7,000 h → 80% savings

> 7,500 h → 85% savings

> 8,000 h → 90% savings

WATT INDUSTRIES assesses whether you already meet the requirements — or how you can achieve them through targeted optimisation of utilisation hours.

EPEX SPOT Integration

Dynamic electricity prices as an active control signal

The energy market fluctuates hourly. Those who know these fluctuations and can align their consumption accordingly pay structurally less — and can even generate revenue on the balancing energy market.

WATT INDUSTRIES connects your load management system directly to the EPEX SPOT price curves. Day-Ahead prices are automatically retrieved daily and converted into a load schedule. Intraday signals allow real-time response. Process protection limits remain active at all times.
